Maryam will share her personal journey as an artist, starting from her childhood in an artistic household and her education in art and design. She will take the audience on a tour of her life and how she has witnessed the rapid transformation of Qatar over the years. She will share how the changes in the country, including changes in behavior, landscape, lifestyle, language, etc., have influenced her design and artistic choices specifically coming from a national millennial’s point of view. Throughout the lecture, Maryam will give examples of her work and share her thoughts and inspiration behind each piece.

Maryam Al-Homaid
Maryam Yousuf Al-Homaid (@maryamhome) is an interdisciplinary designer holding a Bachelors of Fine Arts and a in Design Studies. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Graphic Design department at Virginia Commonwealth University (Qatar). Maryam spent her childhood in her father’s studio, known as Yousef Ahmed (@_yousef_ahmad_) who is one of the leading Modern Art Arab Artists in Qatar and the region. She was always surrounded by tools, materials and paint throughout all of her childhood.
Maryam's work has been showcased in cities such as Tokyo, Paris, Berlin, and most recently, New York as a part of the Years of Culture initiative by Qatar Museums.
